In June 2008 Dave, Nick, Steve and Stephen are cycling unsupported from John O’Groats to Lands End over the course of 9  days to raise money for The Alzheimers Society.

We both have first hand experience of the misery that this awful disease can cause. Dave’s Father died last year after suffering for several years with Alzheimer’s and Nick has worked as a nurse, with Alzheimer’s and other dementia patients for 16 years. We have witnessed the pain, suffering and emotional torment that this illness causes to the sufferer and  to the family who are left to cope.  Please help us help the Alzheimer’s society. They are a leading care and research charity for people with dementia and those who care for them.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Alzheimer’s Society will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Here are some Stats to illustrate the size of the problem:

  1. There are now more than 5 million people in the United States living with Alzheimer’s
  2. Every 72 seconds, someone develops Alzheimer’s in the US
  3. The direct and indirect costs of Alzheimer’s and other dementias amount to more than$148 billion annually.
  4. In the UK there are currently 700,000 people with dementia and 60,000 deaths a year are directly attributable to dementia.
  5. There are an estimated 24 million people with dementia worldwide. By 2040, it is projected that this figure will have increased to 81 million.
    Many thanks for your support.

    Hi Mimi

The route elevations can be done at http://www.mapmyrun.com . I was a total nerd about the elevation data and got more accurate data from Anquet maps. But I think your tracklogs will do this just as well if you want to be anoraky too!

    Cheers

    Hi Chaps

I’m crewing Mimi next week so now getting excited about the trip. I see you’re from the West Country (I’m from Cornwall) – any chance of you joining us for a bit on route? I’m sure by the time we get down to you we’ll all be tired so I’m trying to encourage as many peolpe to do a section with Mimi as possible. We’re trying to have one of us cycle with her at all times to keep he going, so if you fancy doing a few miles that would be ace! Mind you, I’m sure you’ve had enough cycling for a while!

    Well done on your efforts!
    Cheers
    Becky

    Hi Guys,
I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you for your support, it meant such a lot to receive messages during my WRA – it still hasn’t sunk in that I have done it and my mind is feeling extremely fuzzy – my friends would say this is very normal for me!!!!

Next time you go and do something crazy let me know and I will put a link up on my website.

Huge thanks again it really was appreciated – I’m now trying to catch up on sleep although this seems to be taking longer than I thought!
